The board is sorted by Elo, not by wins. That distinction is the whole design. A player with two hundred victories against beginners will sit below a player with forty against strong opponents, because the rating is not counting how often you turned up — it is estimating how likely you are to beat the person next to you.
Every result moves both ratings, and it moves them by an amount that depends on how surprising the result was. Beat somebody rated well above you and you take a large share of their rating; beat somebody well below you and you gain almost nothing, because the system already assumed you would. The K-factor is 32, which sets how far a single battle can move you.
The practical consequence is that the board cannot be farmed. There is no schedule of easy opponents that carries you upward, and avoiding strong ones does not protect your position so much as freeze it.
Everyone starts at 1,000, which is a guess rather than a measurement — it takes a genuine run of battles before a rating means anything. The badge next to a name is just the band that rating falls into:
You can fight without an account, and the battles are identical — same matchmaking, same judging, same Elo arithmetic. What a guest does not get is persistence: the rating lives in that browser and disappears with it, so there is nothing stable to put on a shared board.
It is not a paywall and there is nothing to buy. An account exists so the number survives a cleared cache and a different phone.
Seasons run monthly, and each one applies a soft reset rather than wiping the board. Ratings are pulled part of the way back toward 1,000 — enough that a month of inactivity does not leave someone parked at the top forever, and far short of erasing what anyone built.
Final standings are kept, so a season you did well in stays on your record after the numbers move on. You can see the current season and its climbers on the season page, or read why the reset is partial rather than total on the seasonal ranking page.
