Straight, unpadded answers about what REPPED does and doesn't do, for parents deciding whether it's right for their teen.
What's the minimum age to use REPPED?
13. REPPED is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a younger child is using the Service, contact us and we'll act on it.
Does REPPED access my teen's camera?
Yes — camera access is required to play, since scoring is based on watching the exercise being performed. Pose detection runs entirely on-device; video is never uploaded to our servers for scoring. During a live match, video streams directly, peer-to-peer, to the opponent only.
Who could my teen be matched against?
Signed-in players are matched with other players in the live queue, which is open to anyone 13+ using the Service — REPPED doesn't currently offer an age-segmented matchmaking pool. Guest play is against REPBOT, our AI opponent, which involves no other person at all.
Can strangers message my teen?
There is no in-app chat or direct messaging system. Interaction during a match is limited to the live camera feed and the exercise itself; public profiles show stats, not a messaging inbox.
What can a parent control?
REPPED does not currently offer a separate parental-controls dashboard. The most effective controls are device-level: camera permissions (revoke at any time in your browser or OS settings), screen time tools built into iOS/Android/your browser, and simply talking through our Community Guidelines and Safety Information together before first use.
What content moderation exists?
Our Community Guidelines prohibit nudity, sexual content, harassment, and hate speech across camera feeds, usernames, and profiles. Reports are reviewed and violations can result in warnings, suspensions, or permanent bans. There is no pre-screening of live camera content before a match happens, since matches are real-time — reporting after the fact is the primary enforcement mechanism, same as any live video product.
Is there a cost, or in-app purchases my teen could make?
REPPED is free with no in-app purchases. Elo, ranks, and cosmetic rewards have no monetary value and cannot be bought. The Service is supported by advertising, never shown during the 30-second battle itself.
Is 30 seconds of maximum effort safe for a teenager?
Short, intense bodyweight intervals are a normal and well-established form of exercise for healthy teenagers, and the 30-second cap is actually the safer end of the spectrum: most home-training injuries happen well after form has quietly collapsed and somebody keeps going anyway, which a half-minute limit largely prevents. The scoring reinforces it, since a rushed shallow repetition counts as half and there is no reward for grinding out bad ones. That said, anyone with a heart condition, a recent injury, or any medical reason to be careful with sudden intense effort should speak to a doctor first — the fact that it is short is exactly what makes people underestimate how intense it is.
Is this going to encourage obsessive exercise or body comparison?
It is a fair concern and it shaped several decisions. REPPED does not estimate calories, does not track weight or body composition, and shows no before-and-after imagery — none of the metrics that drive body comparison exist in the product. What it ranks is how many honest repetitions you completed against one opponent, which is a performance measure rather than an appearance one. There is also no daily streak that punishes a missed day, because streaks are the mechanic most likely to turn training into an obligation. That said, no design prevents every unhealthy relationship with exercise, and a teenager training compulsively is worth a conversation regardless of which app it happens in.
What exactly can the opponent see?
During a live battle the opponent sees the camera feed, in real time, for the 30 seconds it lasts. That is the same thing that happens on any video call, with two differences: it is peer-to-peer rather than passing through our servers, and neither side can record it through the product. Spectators watching a battle do not receive video at all — only rep counts and scores. Nothing is stored, so there is no recording to be resurfaced later, by us or by anybody else. The practical advice is the same as for any video call: think about what is visible behind you before arming the camera.
Can my teen play without any other person being involved?
Yes. Guest play is against REPBOT, our AI opponent, which involves no other human, no live video to anyone, and no public profile. It is a genuine full version of the game rather than a demo, and it is a reasonable way to let a younger teenager use the product while you decide how you feel about the live queue.
How do I delete my teen's account and data?
Email privacy@repped.fun with the account's username or email and we'll delete the account and associated personal data.
